Savastat LC and Outside Reset Controllers

Outside Reset controllers operate on the theory that less heat is required in the system to provide adequate heat capacity on milder days. Outside Reset controllers are becoming popular because of the efficiency improvements these units can provide.

The better outside reset controllers typically adjust boiler operating temperatures based on outside temperature. Because they are directly controlling boiler operating temperature, Savastat LC should not be used in conjunction with this type of unit. Although these units may provide fairly decent savings, we have found that greater savings can typically be achieved by disabling the outside reset, and using Savastat LC instead. Of course, this would require site specific testing to determine which solution works best.

Some of these controllers simply hold the boiler off until outside temperatures drop to a specified temperature. Savastat LC can be used with this type of outside reset controller with no system modifications, and proper operation will not be affected.
